Into the Abyss

Ultimately shattered discover
Completion within pieces of self
wanting there to stay
to soothe and tame the ache
ultimately weary
long for nothing more

Pressed toward self-unity
supposed-necessary wholeness
scattered fragments drift together
last bit of hope wasted
dared to reveal self to cruel eyes
alas found only despair

Wreckage of humanity cries in terror
one piece collides against the other
no piece remains
simple dust  to float aimlessly
within a sea of pain

Then the silence

.... so chilling in its absolutism
an edge of fright
where solace was once found
recoil in vast disillusion
know the fight is lost

Undeniably in ruins discover
Fragile happiness within particles of self
Know there is nothing left to give
if forced to face the hurt again,
there is naught to fear more

Then to bewildered eyes
Companion comfort blows in
true connection
gently encouraging growth
parallel brokenness
soothes jagged edges of the soul

Despite the fear
take that one last leap
gather the bits of self left
Step into the abyss

find within no need to be “whole”
no forced reconciliation to grind
To fit into a mold

Completion is once more found
within isolated pieces of self
each fragment balanced
this time not alone

shiver now…
this time believe
Defy history and know
love will not strike thee down.
